It is fantastic to see you get so involved with the Summer Learning Journey! I was so shocked when I scrolled through your slideshow and found over 70 posts so far! What an awesome accomplishment.
Typically for this programme, Dani (my comment helper) and I will post a comment for each activity that a student completes and posts. However, because you've completed all of your activities and posted them together, it will take us a long time to comment on each activity. Therefore we are going to make it a priority for both of us to comment on different activities of yours within this slideshow, everyday for the next 10 days until our programme ends on the 26th December.
So expect to see our names pop up often and we encourage you to comment back with us and answer any questions we may ask about your activities!
I'm sorry to hear you fell out of a kayak at camp! Where did your school go for camp? Over the Christmas break I went camping with some friends and we went kayaking in the Pataua estuary. We stupidly went on avery windy day and I very nearly fell out a number of time because the water was so choppy!
I see you've posted about having a big family already, how many siblings do you have? I have two sisters and a brother and during the holidays when we are all home it can get pretty crowded. One positive to having so many siblings is you always have someone to play with. In my whanau we love playing cards, skipbo is our favourite. Have you played skipbo before?
Ka pai Ebony, the work you have done is amazing and you should be very proud!
I’m Dani, I work with Georgia here at the Summer Learning Journey. It might take us a wee while to comment on all the activities but we will make sure we do before the end of the programme, which is 26th January ( not December like Georgia said!).
Did you know every comment you post on your blog or another student’s Summer Learning Journey blog, earns you extra points!
If you copy and paste this link into your URL bar, you can see all the Summer Learning blogs from students all over the country!
It’s great to see that you have read Maui and the Giant Fish, and written some interesting facts about it. Maui showed great determination and perseverance by not giving up and showing his brothers that they were wrong.
What is your favourite myth that features Maui? One of the myths I like is another one about him fishing up islands. This myth is from Hawaii, according to the myth, Maui used the wing from his pet bird as bait. He fished up all of the Islands of Hawaii. Did you know that one of the main islands in Hawaii is called Maui?
Week One, Day Four ,Bonus Activity:
It’s great to see that you have watched and ranked the three performances. Most of the Summer Learning Journey bloggers have picked Te Puku O Te Ika as their favourite. It’s my favourite as well because it is a very powerful performance. Why was it your favourite? I noticed on the slide that you have your pepeha on, there are photos of you dressed in a Kapa Haka costume. When was the last time your Kapa Haka roopu performed?
Week One, Day Five, Activity One:
Tino pai! You have done an awesome job translating the phrases from Maori to English and English to Maori. Did you know some of the phrases already, or did you ask a whanau member or use google translate? I knew a few of the phrases but I would have never guessed what He pai taku ki te takaro i te whutupaoro means! Do you get much of a chance to learn Te Reo at school?
I hope your holidays have been going well! Remember you can earn extra points for posting quality comments on other student’s posts or by posting about your holidays or anything else that you want to talk about.
It sounds like you and your family, have a great time for birthdays! Who is the cake maker in your family? Mum always made our birthday cakes when we were younger but now we are older we can make each other’s cakes. I really enjoy making cakes for my friends birthdays too! Do you enjoy baking?
You have been very generous with your money. 100 million dollars, is plenty of money to give to charity. I think you would be very set to study, probably for the rest of your life with $150 million! I think your mum would love your gift of money. If I won lotto or a lot of money, I would give some to my mum too. I think I would pay off the house, so she doesn’t need a mortgage.
Those are some lovely photos of you and your friend in your Kapa haka costume. Is that for your school kapa haka roopu? I remember when the Te Tai Tokerau festival was held at my high school. We had three days off school when we could go and watch all the different schools perform. Has your Kapa Haka school ever travelled for competitions?
You have found out some great facts about Richie McCaw. Did you know that he has recently married former Black Sticks player, Gemma Flynn. The Black Sticks is the national women’s hockey team. She has played in three summer Olympic Games!
Valerie Adams is one of the most successful track and field athletes from New Zealand ever. I remember growing up and watching her compete at the 2008 Olympics. Did you know she is one of the only track and field stars in the world that has won world titles all three age categories ( youth, junior and senior). If you had the chance to compete at the Olympics, what event would you represent New Zealand in?
Have you ever seen any Tango dancing? It is a very beautiful dance! I remember watching Dancing with the Stars and there was always a ‘Tango Week’. To earn full points for this activity you need to make sure you post three interesting facts on your blog. The Summer Learning Journey ends at midnight tomorrow night! So to earn full points you will need to edit this activity very soon!
I look forward to reading more of your blogs soon. -Dani

I hope you had an awesome break and enjoyed completing activities! I'm very sorry we didn't comment back about every single blogpost you did - we however, did read them all and are delighted with your efforts.
Hi Ebony its Jackie. I really love how you made it up to 85 slides that's incredibly awesome I wish I could finish like that but I didn't get to finish it off because I was just too bussy, but I'm all right know. My question is Did you enjoy doing all this work?
Kia Ora Ebony, it's Mary from Lake Brunner School. I think you did an amazing job on your summer learning journey, how you did 85 slides! that is mind blowing. Each slide is detailed and interesting. Ka Pai, keep up the good work :)
